Dr Zahid Palekar
Dr Zahid Palekar was born and grew up in Kenya, East Africa. He went to Pakistan to study medicine, completing his Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS (Hons)), at King Edward Medical University, Punjab in 1975, before moving back to Kenya. He went on to complete his internship at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi and working with the Department of Health in Kenya before starting his own General Practice in 1979.
Zahid worked in General Practice for 21 Years in Kenya, running his own practices in numerous locations over the years. He moved to Australia in 2000 and worked in rural WA, including Merredin, Goomalling and Byford during which time he became a fellow with RACGP in 2005. He finally started his own practice, Beckenham Medical Centre, in 2007 which he is still successfully running today.
Zahid enjoys all areas of general practice but has a particular interest in Chronic Disease Management, Refugee health, paediatrics and skin disorders.
Outside of work, Zahid enjoys being a loving grandfather to 7 grandkids, tending to his orchard, travelling and camping.
Zahid is fluent in numerous languages, including English, Urdu, Swahili, Punjabi, Gujarati and Hindi.
